$ 1,000,000

$ 1,000,000

update july 2026

The original asking price for the church and the adjoining building was $2 million USD. However, recently the owner agreed to sell the church building separately, if we cannot afford both at this time. We have started an official capital campaign to raise $1 million USD ($1.4 million CAD) with which we hope to buy this church building.

A Providential Opportunity in Heidelberg

A Providential Opportunity in Heidelberg

Five hundred years ago, the Reformation reached Heidelberg and gave the church the Heidelberg Catechism. After two centuries of theological decline, a new Reformed work is growing in Germany today – and we invite you to be part of it. In 2010, a Reformed mission began in Heidelberg: the Selbständige Evangelisch-Reformierte Kirche (Free Evangelical-Reformed Churches in Germany), a church-planting effort to rebuild the Reformed church in Germany. A second congregation has since been planted in Hannover, and future church planters are in training.

Over the last years, the congregation in Heidelberg has outgrown its meeting space. There is no room for catechism classes, youth work, or offices, and visitors sometimes have to stand in the entrance area. A building of our own would also tell a skeptical German public: this church is here to stay.

Now a rare opportunity has emerged. A small historic church, built in 1737 and fully renovated, has come on the market less than a mile from our current location. It seats up to 300 for worship, and a former parsonage on the property would house offices, classes, and the affiliated ministries of the mission, such as theological education and publishing. The complex would serve the Heidelberg congregation well – and become a base for Reformed ministry and church planting across Germany.

We need to move quickly, as others are interested in the property. The Heidelberger Society, our fundraising partner in the USA, has set up a dedicated account for tax-deductible gifts. The campaign runs through the end of 2026 and gathers both pledges toward the purchase and donations, which – should the purchase fall through – would go toward a better-suited rented space instead. To enter negotiations, we hope to know by September 1, 2026, whether the goal is within reach. If you plan to give, please let us know of your intentions.

Above all, please pray for us: Except the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it.

Thank you for your partnership.
